Acknowledging and Citing NIAGADS and Datasets
Introduction
Similar to citing articles used in publications, it is imperative that datasets and repositories are citated in resulting publications and the appropriate acknowledgement statement is included to credit the work of the original researcher and/or study participants.
Citing NIAGADS and its datasets allows other researchers to easily identify the data used in the publication so the work may be reproduced, or the dataset can be used for their own research question.
The acknowledgment statement provides the information about what NIH funding was used to generate that data as well as recognition of the participant contribution to the original and derivative research.
As such, NIAGADS requires as part of its code of conduct and the Data Use Certification Agreement (NIAGADS Data Archive, NIAGADS DSS), which investigators sign during the data applications process, that investigators cite NIAGADS datasets and ensure they are using the appropriate acknowledgment statement when publishing using NIAGADS data.
Failure to comply with these policies may result in suspension or a decline to renew a DAR at the discretion of the NIA.
Please cite NIAGADS and the associated datasets at first mention in the text.
Please include the NIAGADS and relevant dataset acknowledgements in the acknowledgement sections of the paper.
Details on how to cite and acknowledge NIAGADS and its datasets are below.

How should I cite datasets from NIAGADS?
You should format your citation based on the publication and citation style guidelines for including a DOI. Since a DOI may have multiple dataset versions tied to it, be sure to include the version of the dataset you used in your analysis so readers can identify the correct version of the dataset should they want to use the same data.

Acknowledging the NIAGADS Repository
Data for this study were prepared, archived, and distributed by the National Institute on Aging Alzheimer’s Disease Data Storage Site (NIAGADS) at the University of Pennsylvania (U24-AG041689), funded by the National Institute on Aging.
Acknowledging Specific NIAGADS Datasets
Each dataset has an acknowledgement that is submitted by the investigator depositing the studies that make up a dataset. NIAGADS has an acknowledgment generator that compiles studies or datasets together to make generating this statement easier for researchers.
